The Making Of Tenons

I used the same width and thickness of the bed rails when making reproduction beds for customers. I also made a plywood jig for cutting the ends tenons. The router was guided along the four edges of the Jig, creating a perfectly-fitting Tenon. Since I had two different sizes of rails to work with, I didn’t plan on making a bench jig.

So, I decided to use the table saw and stack dado blade. I know this sounds odd, but this is new for me. I was unable to afford a stack dado blade until I needed it for a demonstration a few years ago. I used a dado for a short time as I began woodworking, but it was a wobble dado , thats a scary thing.

Ive watched others make tenons with a dado blade many times. Woodworkers often leave the tenon untrimmed and then trim the stock with a plane.

I was intrigued by the many ways you can create tenons. I anted up the first three ,I know, I know. I took the easy ones. Its your turn to add others. As I sit here, I can think of another way to do this. But I’ll keep this one for anyone who wants to add their two cents. (I will admit that I wouldn’t ever attempt to make a Tenon with my fourth method). How do you make tenons?
